WoW is a good game, I've logged about 7 or 800 hours in it now, PvE is awesome, tons of content, and it never gets very boring. PvP on the other hand is, IMO, pretty pitiful, it's basically just a game of having the best gear and the most time invested. Planetside is my PvP, GW is my playing-with-friends game, and WoW is my PvE fix. The main reason I play GW is it's affordable, doesn't require lots of time investment (like WoW), fun, and all my buds play it

This.. is complete bollox spoken by someone who either has A.) No WoW or B.) No Social Life.

I go out clubbing two, three times a week. I look after a house and 8 cats. I go into town when I can with my friends. I even just relax chatting to mates on Yahoo while watching music channels.

WoW Does NOT take up your social life, and if there's is anyone out there who is getting grief from their friends because they spend too much time on it, I'd like to meet them. You will probably find, that people who play this game hardc0re have irl friends who play it WITH them.

I find it hard to get out AS often as I'd like, I love this game but STILL I'm not an excessive player.

Don't talk out your arse.

Oh and p.s. People do things for fun. THIS is one of them, and a lot of people have friends on the game so the GAME is part of their social life.

Addiction/loss of social whatever really just depends on the person playing. Some are more easily pulled in than others, for various reasons. The people who do play in moderation know how to do it right, and don't lose anything. The people who get caught up in the game let themselves lose track of everything else and can't balance life and game effectively.

WoW, GW, FFXI, it's the same story, although I find GW to be a bit easier to close out of.

Just depends on the willpower of the player

after reaching rank7 in guildwars and many hard earned pvp halls fest and playing the game for 5 months,
i got WoW the other day.
and tbh

it is better than guildwars, never thought id say it but....

*reasons*

1. There is NO spam with WTS WTS WTS WTS
2. the trade ingame is much better, the ability to have clickable words in chat so when someone wants to sell something you can click in the text and it shows the item.
3. PEOPLE ARE FRIENDLY, they help you if you are dieing to a mob, not just stand there and go, OMG MY W/MO WILL UBER LEET THEIR A^&%^S!
4. you can meet new people and actually kill something together and join with MORE new people instead of having to wade through a city like lions arch ¬_¬
5. you can swim ^^
6. there is no pressure of having to be a certain rank to get a group.

Another question, how is XP devided?

Say I'm like Level 10 fighting a level 8 monster, if someone attacks the monster, is the XP split or is it locked?

Soon as you engage a target it becomes yours. Many's the time someone has been in trouble, and a member of the opposition so to speak, has HELPED them. They get no reward. No xp, no loot.

When casters run past you they'll buff you up with as much as possible. When druid's see you low health they'll heal you up. When you have a personal duel with someone who can heal, they'll heal you up afterwards.

I've met some young guys playing, early teens.. but most seem to be in their 20's. I had a conversation with a guy in his 40's at 3am yesterday lol. Depends what time you play but spam never happens. The only spam you see is the nonsence I talk lol.

I believe that I read somewhere that WoW has 500,000 registered paying subscribers per month (not totally sure on that, probably way more). But anyway, multiply that by 15 bucks a month, and that some big time dough coming in every month, if it is 500,000 thats 7.5 million dollars a month, not including the initial game cost Blizzard is getting.

Well anyway the point I was trying to make, is that with that kind of revenue coming in, they have no excuse, not to be better than Guild Wars or any other not pay for play game. Hopefully, they are taking that money and reinvesting it in the game, with more programmers and servers and such, so they have the resources to add more better stuff. So its kind of like your comparing a Corvette to a Geo Storm or something of that nature. The Corvette better be better or you are really getting ripped off price wise.

IMO, Guild Wars serves it niche has being the not taking too long to reach max level and being perfectly balanced for all characters, this works wonders on the PVP level and the best benefit is, it is all free. It's really the only one of its kind and I am glad to see it. Hopefully more games will soon follow the free road. As I am the one not to pay a cent to play a game I already paid for. I'll drive the paid off Geo and let the other people make payments on the Corvette. But I could see where someone could get bored after 5 months of playing Guild Wars and I think A-Net has messed up by not having an expansion pack ready right now.

But if your looking for FREE multiplayer online play and are bored to death with GW, I would recommend Neverwinter Nights. The graphics are dated, but you'll have access to hundreds of mini Persistent Worlds created by players, all which use their own rulesets and ideas. All varying in maps, creatures, worlds and focus (some are RPG, Hack n' Slash, PVP, etc.). You are sure to find one you like or best fits you.

If I were to pay to play any game, it'd have to be EQ2. I would also consider WoW, but the prices are way too high on both. And as an answer to Eyahl, it's easy to afford $15/month if you don't have financial responsibilities, but when you add in rent, power, water, phone, cell phone, car payment, insurance, food, gas, credit card payment..... it adds up waaaay too quickly.

I get a total of £136 a fortnight. For anyone who doesn't know what a fortnight is that's two weeks. I have that to live on and since my mum left home I have a LOT to pay for.. recently a £200 vet bill for one very sick cat.
This is what the screwy government deems worthy to give me for the rest of my blasted life.

Jeez... That blows...

And I never meant to insinuate that you didn't have financial responsibility. I was just stating that as a newly married independent person, $15 a month can add up.

Game cards. 196th time...

No credit card or drafting needed. And the game itself comes with 30 days in the damn box, so thats 90 days of not having to buy a $29 card. I buy my cards in 30 days segments, and they cost me literally $10 a month. Locally. Most major chains carry these cards!

So that they can slap you with a charge on day 31. Plus that whole spyware issue REALLY turns me off on ever buying this thing. I already have to deal with Microslop knowing everything about my computer... I don't want Blizzard to know too. :/

If those cards cost you around $30, and it's for 60 days.. how is that $10 a month for you?

It was 59.99$CAN for the game. A 60-day gamecard is 39.99$CAN.

So I finally gave in and went out to buy WoW. It states on the box that the first month is free, alright, great! I can try it out. There I go to create my account, when it asks me for my Credit Card or a Game Card Number. Now, believe me, I've shelled out plenty of money for crappy games, but I've paid 65$CAN for WoW, now I'm required to go buy a 60-day gamecard just to see whether or not I'll like the game? Am I missing something or do you absolutely require a CC/GC to play it?

^^ Message I e-mail to Blizzard. I'm not liking the way they're managing everything already lol.
